GIPHY Brand Channel Setup: A Verification Checklist
Prepare your brand identity, original uploads, account ownership, and application details before applying for a GIPHY Brand Channel.

A GIPHY Brand Channel application works best when the account, brand identity, and uploaded work all tell the same story. Prepare those pieces before applying. Approval, search eligibility, placement, and a verification badge are separate things; none should be sold as a guaranteed result.
This checklist is for a business or organization publishing its own branded GIFs and stickers. If you make non-commercial original art, check the Creator Channel route instead. Platform rules can change; the official application linked below is the final source for requirements.
Start with the account your brand will own
Choose a stable username that people can associate with the business. Use a company-domain email and make sure the brand can access it after an agency relationship ends. Record who owns the channel, who approves uploads, and who can recover access. Avoid building a long-term brand library in an individual contractor's account.
An agency should organize client work under the client's channel. Mixing multiple clients into an agency-branded distribution account creates an ownership problem as well as a confusing visitor experience. GIPHY's Brand Channel guidance and agency guidance explain the distinction.
Assemble a coherent starter library
GIPHY's current application tips call for at least five uploaded pieces and consistent application identity. Treat that as the starting requirement, then check the live form before submitting.
Our suggested starter library covers different conversational jobs rather than five recolors of a logo: a greeting, a celebration, a thank-you, an encouragement, and a product-related reaction. This is a creative recommendation, not a platform rule. A coffee brand, for example, might express a morning greeting and a tired-to-energized reaction through the same recognizable character.
Check that you control the artwork, footage, music where relevant, and branding. Keep permission records with the source files. Do not borrow another brand's character or celebrity clip merely because it already circulates online.
Complete the pre-application worksheet
| Check | What to prepare | What a reviewer should understand |
|---|---|---|
| Identity | Brand username, avatar, short bio, website | Which real brand the channel represents |
| Contact | Working company-domain email | Who can answer account questions |
| Ownership | Brand-controlled account and asset rights | Who owns the content and channel |
| Library | Original uploads with a consistent visual style | What the brand contributes |
| Discovery | Relevant tags on each individual asset | What each GIF or sticker actually expresses |
| Review | Named approver and a checked application draft | Whether the submission is ready |
Save the channel URL and application date in your campaign notes. Put review correspondence in the same place so a teammate does not submit a second application simply because they cannot find the first.
Keep design review separate from channel review
A channel application does not make every future upload suitable for distribution. Review each asset for understandable motion, appropriate content, readable type, and the intended format. A GIF with an opaque rectangle is a different creative object from a transparent sticker intended to sit on top of a Story.
Have one person review the artwork and another check the account details and tags. A fresh pair of eyes often catches a cropped word, inconsistent username, or reaction tag that does not match the animation.
After applying, verify each next state
Use the platform's application-status flow and keep any response. After an approval, confirm that the channel is accessible, the uploads have the expected labels, and representative searches work in the specific place you intend to use them. A result on GIPHY.com does not establish appearance in every partner app.
If an upload does not appear, follow the Instagram sticker troubleshooting guide before replacing the whole library. For a repeatable metadata process, use the GIPHY tagging worksheet.
What to ask an agency before handing over the channel
Ask who owns the account, which assets are included, who makes the final application submission, how revision requests are handled, and what documentation you receive. A useful handover includes source files, final exports, asset URLs, tags, access arrangements, and a record of observed search results. It should also distinguish platform decisions from work the agency can directly deliver.
